Press Release IVGID receives TRPA 2006 Best in the Basin Award The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency recently presented a “2006 Best in the Basin - Certificate of Appreciation” Award to the Incline Village General Improvement District’s Golf Department, in recognition of the innovative technology and exemplary best management practices used in the Mountain Golf Course Parking Lot & BMP Retrofit project. Dan St. John, IVGID Director of Public Works and Shaun Riley, Mountain Golf Superintendent accepted the award at the TRPA Governing Board meeting on January 24, 2007. The retrofit project, initiated in 2002, focused on the remodeling of a public area which suffered from broken asphalt, dirt parking, no storm water management facilities, limited landscaping and poor traffic circulation. The area now features a consolidated parking area with improved traffic flow and multiple best management practices (BMP’s) to control storm water runoff and soil erosion. The BMP’s incorporated into the project preserve local water quality by trapping non-source point pollutants such as oil, fertilizers and sediment. The retrofit has succeeded in eliminating direct discharge of parking lot runoff to Rosewood Creek, which drains into Lake Tahoe. The site features a storm water collection system which routes storm water runoff through sand/oil separation filters and conveys runoff to retention and infiltration basins. Other innovative technology used includes a retention basin which serves as a below ground infiltration gallery on the side of a hill, made possible by using a unique HDPE geo-grid product. The landscaping retrofit component introduced native and ornamental vegetation to the site, which has now matured in the 5 years since installation to serve as a model for low maintenance, low water use landscaping.
